sequencing
Sequences, sequencing. Sometimes I think of it as conscious doodling or at least an opportunity for trying to be more conscious while creating. It's a process I've started working with recently which has led to some interesting forms and experienes. Maybe it comes from Paul Klee's idea of a dot going for a walk or from Agnes Martin's meditative mark making. By working with a call and response method where one mark speaks to the next I find that a constellation can develop upon the page which either works or falls to pieces depending on my state of being. It becomes a practice of concentration to observe and stay with the process. Questions arise, attention drifts and everything can so quickly fall apart. How long can the form hold my attention? Where do I go when I'm lost?
