Suzanne Lacy, giving voice to the spaces between

I have been reading about Suzanne Lacy, in the book Spaces Between, and she is a Californian artist who was a strong voice in the feminist movement and she has tackled larger social and political questions. She works as an artist, a maker, but predominantly in performance art, individually but mostly on a larger scale with a group of participants. She works with the ideas of power, giving a voice to marginalised social groups and overall working with the self in relation to others. Her art is strong, shocking sometimes, but also moving and poignant, putting the viewer/experiencer in the midst of a particular social or political standpoint, giving them a physical representation via experience of this issue. She has moved away from physical representation in art and more towards socially engaged art projects.
